Session 1: Get in the Game: Launching a Successful MDM Program

Most companies don’t know how much inaccurate, unavailable, undefined, or contradictory data is costing them. But everyone agrees that it’s expensive. And the costs are growing. The fact is, most organizations do not want to face the ugly truth -- disparate and unreconciled data directly impacts operational efficiency, corporate profitability, customer satisfaction, and even employee morale. Resolving master data challenges is not easy. You need to understand MDM’s value proposition to your business, how to launch an MDM program that has traction, and where to find organizational support, executive sponsorship and funding. You need to learn how to design the best blueprint and architecture for MDM at your organization -- and you need to consider where you can find “quick wins” to show incremental success during the often multi-year implementation program. This session will teach you how to:

  • Pitch the business value of MDM to position it for success.
  • Plan, scope and design the program to support incumbent technology and cultural environments, while at the same time driving changes to data quality, deployment, and business decision making.
  • Create an MDM roadmap that enlists executive sponsorship and secures funding.
  • Use MDM as a springboard for introducing data governance and data management practices.
  • Distinguish the unique components of MDM in order to differentiate its purpose and its value.

Session 2: Bullet-proof MDM: Designing a World-class Development Environment

It’s no secret: data is complex. There’s more of it than ever, and it’s coming from more organizations and sources, and streaming into our organizations at a faster and faster rate. Arguments about whether data is mission-critical are over. But how should we organize our business initiatives and development teams around data? What should the MDM project team be responsible for, and what should they collaborate on? How will you sustain momentum and funding for your long-term strategy? This session will help you “bullet proof” your plan and create a solid development framework that meets your business where it is, and positions your MDM program for success. This session will help you:

  • Understand the critical components of MDM required to meet the business and technology goals of your organization.
  • Determine the skills and experience you will need to jump start your MDM program.
  • Discover the components of a solid MDM architecture that can work within your current infrastructure and leverage existing technologies and processes.
  • Structure a discrete MDM development team, as well as identifying ancillary teams for collaboration and support.
  • Evaluate the Five Levels of MDM Maturity, a framework developed by Baseline Consulting, so that you can understand where you are now and where you need to be.

Session 3: Anatomy of a Successful MDM Project: Lessons Learned from the Real World

MDM projects are massive undertakings, but the benefits are compelling. It’s apparent that MDM is an inevitable requirement -- every company will need to embrace it eventually. But save a few early adopters, many companies are either still investigating or only just beginning to implement MDM, so proven best practices are scarce.  Now is the time to learn from those who have conquered their master data problem -- and won, of course! Find out what challenges they faced during their project, what their strategy looked like and how they overcame obstacles to achieve success, improve processes and demonstrate real ROI. This session will explore:

  • Best practices for aligning business and IT for successful adoption of MDM.
  • What early adopters would have done differently and why.
  • What you can do to streamline processes and utilize information technology efficiently.

Special Session: Data Governance: Setting Goals, Setting Roles, Getting It Right

Data governance is often cited as a prerequisite for a successful master data management program. True enough, but data governance should ultimately evolve to become an enterprise program in its own right. The challenge is setting up an effective data governance structures, methods, and roles to not only support MDM but to serve the business for the long-term. This session will not only put data governance in context with MDM, but show you how to build data governance into your company’s existing business requirements and development processes. Find out:

  • The right way to launch a data governance program
How to position data stewardship and data management to support data governance
  • How the business and IT should align around data governance
  • Top considerations for forming a data governance council
  • Six steps for designing data governance

The session includes real-life examples of different data governance organizational structures, and will include self-assessment for you to gauge your own data governance readiness.
