SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

State of the Industry Keynote Presentation:

The Convergence of Two Powerhouse Technologies: Oracle Database, and VMware-Enabled Virtual Infrastructures

Presenter: Nathan Biggs, CEO, House of Brick Technologies

This session will overview industry trends related to database adoption for enterprise-class workloads, and the most cost-effective and performance platforms for running those workloads. Oracle, the industry’s powerhouse in database management systems, and VMware, the premier platform provider will be discussed separately, and then shown how they can work together for the ultimate benefit of scaled enterprises.

House of Brick typically encounters three emotional roadblocks with customers as they consider running production databases on VMware: Oracle support, Oracle Licensing, and VMware performance. These issues will be addressed with real-world examples of how they have been overcome.

Session Two:

Virtualizing Production-Scale Oracle Databases on VMware—Best Practices and Configuration Considerations

Presenter: David Welch, CTO & Chief Evangelist, House of Brick Technologies

David Welch will open up House of Brick’s Oracle virtualization playbook to discuss the best practices, configuration gotchas, and optimal methods for maximizing the performance of Oracle databases on VMware infrastructures. Topics will include host hardware sizing, VSphere settings, and Oracle configurations.

Session Three:

Virtualizing Oracle with EMC and VMware

Presenter: EMC vSpecialist

This session provides best practice and solution guidelines to successfully architect and deploy Oracle databases on the EMC and VMware platform. Business and technical topics that will be addressed include

  • Maximize performance while meeting SLAs
  • Deploy more Oracle in less time
  • Scale and protect applications without impact
  • Improved licensing ROI with full Oracle support
  • Increase server unitization and reduce cost through consolidation

Session Four:

Customer Testimonial

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear real-world examples of how several leading companies successfully virtualized their Oracle environment. Customer testimonial participation may vary by city but will include companies such as:

  • One of the largest independent tire wholesalers in the U.S.
  • Large private research university
  • A multinational company that owns and operates marine and aviation assets used primarily in the energy industry

Session Five:

Live Q&A/Panel Discussion

Come prepared to have your toughest virtualization questions answered by our panel of experts. You'll have the opportunity to interact with our team of featured panelists including Nathan Biggs, David Welch, and experts from EMC and VMware.
